The work
Volcano Suite takes the volcanic nature of Gran Canaria as its starting point. The force, substance and character of the island’s landscape inform a work for trombone quartet whose journey unfolds over five minutes.
Héctor Muñoz and Blazhen Nastevski wrote the work together during Makbrass Quartet’s visit to Gran Canaria and dedicated it to the ensemble. Its origins connect the collaboration between the two composers with the performers’ encounter with the island’s landscape.
Makbrass Quartet premiered the piece on 2 April 2025 at the Paraninfo of the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the recording also took place.
