About the work
12 preludios para 12 poemas de Alonso Quesada is a cycle based on selected texts by the Gran Canarian writer, with each prelude forming an independent musical response to a poem. Composition begins with an emotional reading: identifying the tension within each text, its atmosphere and what remains after reading, then giving these impressions musical form.
The work moves through a range of expressive states, with each piece finding the language, rhythm and density its poem calls for. The cycle’s unity comes from a shared approach to words: listening to their emotional content and finding a musical form that can carry it further.
The project opens a contemporary dialogue with Alonso Quesada’s work, approaching his literature through composition and understanding music as a form of reinterpretation, memory and continuity.
