Héctor Muñoz is a composer and sound artist. Much of his work begins with an interest in how music and sound can turn a narrative into an experience.
His work explores how sound can give form to the emotional content of a story. This may take the shape of an orchestral score, a piano piece, electronic music, a film score, a performance or sound for the stage.
This freedom to move between forms is central to his practice. Acoustic instruments, synthesis, recording, silence, sound design and technology are materials he brings together to shape a shared experience. Experimentation has a purpose when it makes something expressible that would otherwise remain out of reach.
In recent years, his focus has increasingly turned towards sustained projects conceived as complete works from the outset: research processes, residencies and collaborations in which music, narrative, performance and space can develop together. These projects may become recordings, scores, concerts, performances or installations while remaining connected to the idea that first gave rise to them.
Alongside this work, he undertakes commissions in film, theatre, concert music, orchestration and sound design. Each collaboration begins with understanding what the work needs, then finding the musical and sonic language that belongs to it. This approach allows him to work across different forms and disciplines without imposing a single aesthetic.
The piano, central to his early musical training, remains part of a broader practice as a composer, performer and sound designer. The meeting of composition, performance and production is a recurring focus of his artistic research.
Based in the Canary Islands, he develops projects and collaborations across Spain and internationally, with a particular interest in work that allows room for research, storytelling and artistic freedom.
